Dr. Jones began his work in the mental health field as a psychiatric technician at Mansfield General Hospital in 1979.  His interest in mental health prompted him to earn an Associate Degree in nursing (RN) from North Central Technical College. In the 1990’s his career led him to Harding Hospital and during that time he completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a minor in Psychology from The Ohio State University. He later attained a Master of Science in Psychiatric Nursing from The University of Akron that led to his qualifying to practice in Ohio as an advance practice nurse, Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Specialist, with prescriptive authority. In early 2000 Dr. Jones opened his own private practice, Pinnacle Mental Health Associates Inc., in Mansfield, Ohio. He then completed a post graduate internship at Princeton University in test construction that led to him becoming a mental health test item writer for The National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) RN. Nationally, he then served as Psychiatric APRN board certification (CNS) test item writer for The American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) in Washington, DC.

It was during that time that he obtained a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Case Western Reserve University. He also subsequently graduated from Capital University Law School with a certificate to practice as a Legal Nurse Consultant. Additionally, he became an American Association of Sexual, Educators, Counselors, and Therapist (AASECT) trained therapist.

Along with his private clinical setting, Dr. Jones has practiced in community mental health centers, prisons, nursing homes, and in the psychiatric consultation liaison role for large medical centers and the Department of Veterans Affairs. In administrative roles, Dr. Jones has been the Psychiatric Clinical Director for Marion General Hospital and the past Chief Nursing Officer for The Ohio Hospital for Psychiatry. He is a past board member for the Richland County Mental Health and Recovery Board as well as serving on the Standards and Practice Committee for The Ohio Board of Nursing. He has held full faculty positions at MedCentral College of Nursing and The University of Akron, and adjunct positions at North Central State College, Ashland University, The Ohio State University, and Case Western reserve University.
