Avery “Ave” Sumpter, MA, LPC is a dedicated Licensed Professional Counselor who focuses on strengthening individuals through a compassionate, person-centered approach. Ave provides a safe and supportive environment for children (ages 6+), adolescents, and young adults, as well as couples and families navigating complex life challenges. With a clinical foundation that began in 2018, Ave has extensive experience in behavioral intervention and crisis management, specializing in neurodiversity, including ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder. He’s found a passion working in neurodiversity due to his own personal experiences with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder throughout his life.
At Capital Private Psychological Services, Ave utilizes an eclectic and trauma-focused therapeutic style, integrating evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Ave is committed to providing culturally sensitive care, offering experience in treating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and PTSD. Additionally, Ave is a dedicated advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community and assists clients facing domestic violence and difficult life transitions.
Ave holds a Master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capital University and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Ohio Dominican University. A former NCAA Division II student-athlete and team captain, Ave brings a disciplined and collaborative spirit to the therapeutic process. By focusing on a strengths-based and solution-focused framework, Ave empowers clients to rediscover their resilience and find a meaningful path forward.
