Dr. Amy Hanson, DNP, MSN, PMHNP-BC provides telehealth services to foster a safe place for clients in the comfort of their own home to assist individuals in their growth and development as they make positive decisions to change their lives and future.
Dr. Hanson is board certified as a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner across the lifespan by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and as a family nurse practitioner by the American Association of Nurse Practitioner’s (AANP). She will be providing mental health services to include diagnostic evaluations, and medical management for mental health illness and working collaboratively with individual therapists and clients to provide comprehensive mental health care management.
Dr. Hanson with 29 years experience in the nursing profession began her work in healthcare in the late 1990s as a practical nurse later obtaining her associates degree of nursing from Hocking Technical College in Nelsonville, Ohio. After years of clinical work, she returned to school at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio where she earned her bachelors of science in nursing degree (2007) and her masters of science in nursing degree (2009) where her capstone project focused on intimate partner, violence (IPV).
Working initially as a family nurse practitioner at Ohio University in the student health center she recognized the importance of standardizing care and bringing forth evidence-based practice in the workplace prompting her to further her education. She obtained her doctorate of nursing practice degree from Frontier Nursing University in Hayden, Kentucky (2013) where her capstone project focused on depression among college students.
While working in the student health center at Ohio University, Dr. Hanson served on, and is a past vice president of Ohio University’s Health and Human Services, Students and Friends (SAF), board, 2009. She is a past board member for the Ohio Association of advanced practice, nurse (OAAPN) South Central region, coordinator 2012-2014.
Dr. Hanson is a former adjunct faculty professor for Ohio university Athens, Ohio 2013 to 2015 responsible for online and blended teaching of the master of science in nursing courses, including: research and evaluation in nursing, evidence-based practice in nursing, advanced pharmacology, family assessment and interventions, nursing care of child and family, and family nurse practitioner in practice. Dr Hanson was also a clinical supervisor for students as they completed their clinical rotations in their master’s of nursing program at Ohio University.
Dr. Hanson later in her career as a family nurse practitioner recognized the need for increased access to mental healthcare services and providers and to help fill that gap in healthcare returned to college to obtain her psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner degree from the University of Tennessee Health Sciences center in Memphis, Tennessee (2024) and looks forward to working with individuals at Capital Private Psychological Services to highlight the importance of self-expression, healing, and liberation by encouraging individuals to share their story to alleviate the weight of silence and connect with others as Maya Angelou stated, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you” which emphasizes the profound emotional pain and psychological burden of suppressing personal truth, experiences or trauma.
